New English Curriculum Standard explicitly points out one of the tasks for High School is to "pay special attention to improving the students' ability to think and express ideas in English and laying a good foundation for their development in the future and lifelong study." It shows that English writing ability is one of the most important communicative abilities that students should achieve in learning English. However, due to the historical and practical reasons, there still exist many problems in both teaching and learning. Many teachers are indifferent to writing instruction and they still adopt traditional approach, while quite a few students take little interest in writing and their low efficiency in writing can't meet the ever-increasing economic demand of the world. Therefore, it's important to find a better way to improve writing instruction.In this thesis, the author briefly introduces TBLT through careful review of the literature concerned. Based on investigation into and research on the implementation of TBLT in the writing class of Senior High School, the author analyzes the necessity and feasibility of TBLT.By analyzing the characteristics of TBLT, namely, learning by doing and focusing on process, this study attempts to present the ideal way of implementing TBLT in English writing instruction. Based on the task-based framework, the author designs seven tasks in the pre-writing, while-writing and post-writing for the experimental group in order to motivate students in their study and activatetheir knowledge background so that students can improve writing by completing tasks collaboratively.The result of the experiment shows that the students in the experimental group benefited from the task-based writing model. There is great improvement in either the organization of texts or syntactic structure. The author concludes that TBLT in writing is an effective way to improve the High School students' writing ability. Teachers should attach importance to the application of TBLT in English writing instruction. The students should be given enough direction and do more training so that they can understand the aims and procedure well and get better result in learning.
