The Research Of Edumetrics Under Mass Higher Education In China

During the past ten years, the higher education in China has been growing rapidly into mass higher education, changing the single education form of Regular Institutions of Higher Education for multiple forms including long-distance education and self-study examination, etc. Meanwhile schooling entities are not only public universities, but also private universities, etc. Thus, there is a increasing concern about higher education quality. How to evaluate the quality of mass higher education in China is a crucial issue for the education administrators and the educators. The educational evaluation that formed under elite higher education can not meet the expectations of the evaluation for mass higher education now, especially lacks basic criteria to evaluate the undergraduate students from kinds of education forms.In this thesis, we apply metrics into education field to put forward the concept of edumetrics by synthetizing documentation, comparison and reasoning, demonstrate the relation among edumetrics, educational measurement and educational evaluation. Furthermore, according to the frame of metrics theories, we construct the edumetrics system for undergraduate education under mass higher education in China by means of several quantitative or qualitative analyses such as deductive method and mathematics statistic.This system comprises four essences, indicators system, benchmark, criteria and methodology. The indicators system that composed with three-layer indicators reflects the basic regulations to undergraduate students in China today. The proportion of each indicator is calculated by AHP. In addition, we suggest two ways to establish the benchmark, sample-test-statistics and group decision. The values achieve transferring by unifying the learning outline, developing and applying edumetrics software.Edumetrics can be widely applied in ministries of education, agencies of educational evaluation and education institutions.
