The layered teaching methodology, based on the premises that there exist differences between students, is a theory that emphasizes the "students-centered" teaching mode and "cartering to all" teaching principle. This theory, if practiced in classroom teaching, will benefit every student in the same class so that everyone may get their best individual developlment.The layered teaching methodology is in accordance with the theory of materialism and dialectic principle, and also in conformity to the pedagogical theories. It takes into cinsideration the students' psychology of learning and is compatible with the principle of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude and the principle of recreation, thus having an extensive theoretic basis.What is stated in this thesis is an attempt made to adopt the motivation-inspiring teaching mode in teaching senior students biology on the basis of the function of motivation as well as the relationship between learning motivation and learning effect. Through questionare, this thesis tries to analyze the current situation of students' motivation in learning biolgy and discusses about the strategy to inspire students' learning motivation in biology: to arouse and strengthen students' interest in learning biology; to cultivate students' learning ability in learning biology. Under the guidence of the above mentioned strategy and based on the existing differences between individuals and possibly achieved academic levels, an experiment is carried out on layered teaching by changing teaching thoughts, better teaching organization forms and improving teaching methods.The experimental study suggests that the layered teaching of biology for senior highs, which is based on the motivation-inspiring strategy, not only helps improve students' academic achievements and promote students' interest in learning, but also helps realize the transformation from "teacher-centered" teaching mode to "students-centered" teaching mode. It also meets the needs of students with diverse learning aptitudes and learning levels and therfore serves as a faily good solution to the conflicts between "catering to all" and "suiting teaching to the aptitude of the students".
