So how to satisfy the new requirements of the new course standards and to keep pace with the course reform is really a question for us to consider when teaching classical essays in classical Chinese.The Ministry of Education worked out the course standards for high school Chinese teaching in 2003. The students are required to have some ability of learning the works in classical Chinese and accumulate some knowledge of classical writings with the aid of definitions and reference books. They are also required to master the meanings and usages of notional words, function words and sentence patterns as well. Learning by analogy is highly valued. Learning to understand the contents of classical works from the angle of the development of history helps to absorb the national wisdom and spirits and form a hard foundation of learning traditional culture. Classical essays are bound to be chosen to test students' reading abilities of the writings in classical Chinese in the entrance examination and the ability level is B. The questions have changed from multiple choices to multiple choices and translations (2002), which shows that topic assignments of the classical essays lay much emphasis on the distinction of students' ability levels. This can help to reform traditional teaching mode and improve students' reading and analytical abilities.At present, the researches of teaching in high school classical essays are mainly at home, people try to figure out the guidance of the entrance examination and pay attention to key points, they strengthen the training of reading skills and induce reading abilities before examinations.
