International Baccalaureate was generated in 1960s. It grew out of the needs of the education for the geographically mobile students whose parents were the diplomats or the staff of international organizations and corporations, preparing them for university entrance.International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, the flagship of IB, is a two-year course of study taken by students aged sixteen to nineteen in their last two years of secondary education. It is designed to be a rigorous comprehensive curriculum and examination system with six subject areas and three core components available in one of the three official languages of the IBO, English, French or Spanish. The program is composed by six subject areas and three core requirements: Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Action, Service.IB is recognized by the famous universities all around the world for its strict curriculum and high quality of education. IB students are welcomed by most universities and colleges in North America and Europe.IBDP was designed for the international schools at first. But now it is extended into the national systems. By now, there are 200,000 students studying IB in 1485 schools in 119 countries. It is also operated in the private schools and state schools in our country. IB is becoming an alternative for more Chinese students to take as a preparatory curriculum for their higher education. Through the investigation, however, there are many problems we should consider rationally as we take it.There are many characters of IB in the curriculum design, study methods, assessment principles and practice. For example, in the aspect of curriculum, it is famous for the breadth and in-depth of its teaching content, emphasis on reflection, compassionate and international understanding. In assessment, support for the reliability of results, diversity assessment tools and methods, internal assessment, and the support to the professional development of the teachers.
