| Evaluation of teaching material is not only important for investigating the changes of teaching material caused by the new curriculum reform, but also important for selecting and compiling teaching material. However, we should not only take into consideration the compiling of teaching material when evaluating it. Implementation of teaching material is the key step in practicing the new curriculum because the merits and demerits of teaching material can only be found through application. Compilers of teaching material will, in this way, have a proper perspective on the teaching material designed by themselves so as to promote the development of teaching material.Following the curriculum reform of elementary education, the new textbook named"Go for it"has been put into use since 2003. Nevertheless, a majority of literatures evaluate the compiling of teaching material, with little attention paid to evaluating of application of it. Therefore, it is currently of great importance to conduct in-use-evaluation, namely to understand the present state of the implementation of this teaching material and discover the problems of it. Thus, this study is carried out by employing 50 teachers and 680 students from four different middle schools in Jiamusi.This paper is divided into five parts:Partâ… elaborates the background of the English curriculum reform and the purpose and significance of the present study.Partâ…¡is the literature review of theories of language teaching syllabus, changes of the English teaching materials and syllabus, and etc.Partâ…¢introduces the new textbook"Go for it", including, for example, the theoretical basis and characteristics of it.Partâ…£is the research methodology of the study. Questionnaires were adopted to investigate the problems of the target teaching material from the perspectives of teachers and students. Results of the research was analyzed as well.Partâ…¤contains the discussion and proposals of the researcher.
