Composition evaluation is a key factor in composition teaching, which means theefficiency of teaching. Traditional composition teaching is aimed at just writing out an articlein every composition exercise. Qian Menglong, a professor, thinks that it is valued by somefamous writers to learn how to write a good composition in the process of evaluating andcorrecting compositions.TangBiao in the Qing Dynasty said, "An article can't be good enough if it is notcorrected frequently." So we can conclude that a good article results from frequent correctingand in the process of correcting, it is easy to master some writing skills. Sometimes, theprocess of correcting is neglected, which results in students' indiffeence to their owncompositions and no improvement of their writing skills.Therefore, evaluating and correctingcompositions, as a matter of fact, is an important reform which affects the whole compositionteaching as well as Chinese teaching.The key to the reform lies in how to deal with the relation between teachers and students,teaching and learning, evaluating and correcting, intelligence and ability. Traditionally, teacherscarefully corrected students' compositions, one after another, which seemed on ending andmade teachers busy all the time. But when the compositions were handede out, students paidonly attention to the score or some spelling mistakes. Thus, teachers' work was in vain andstudents' improvement in writing was impossible. So it is very important to ensure that studentsand teachers play separate roles in the composition evaluation. The focus of teachers' role isguidance , which means teachers must organize and guide the writing, inspire and encouragestudents to write. Teachers control the whole process to avoid the inefficiency andpurposelessness. The correct guidance should serve the student-centred theory, which meansstudents play an important role in the process of evaluating compositions and students shouldlearn something useful in the process. Student-centredness, guidance of teachers and frequentpractice are the main factors in composition teaching as well as in Chinese teaching. Accordingto some teaching experiences and practical research, based on the theory of modern educationkand the knowledge on educational psychology, the thesis mainly discuss some methods andprinciples in composition evaluation and correction to form a scientific idea about it.
