The new round of the reform in fundamental education is being advanced rapidly in our country. Great changes have take place in educational thoughts , teaching theories and methods of geography teaching in middle schools .Based on behaviorism ,structuralism and cognitive theories , the present paper concerns itself with a library study of the application of modern media in geography teaching in middle schools.The present study is composed of four parts . In Part One ,a brief in-troducation of this study is given involving definitions ,classifications , present conditions, characteristics of the modern media.Part Two is about rational for the study .The study is based on behaviorism , structuralism and cognitive theories .Party Three assesses the feasibility of applying media in geography teaching which is examined in this study from the following perspectives : the reform in education ,the characteristics of the subject, the advantages of modern media ,the development of technology and economy , the sustentation from the national policies and so on.In Part Four, the application of modern media in geography teaching practice is addressed from the teaching models ,the teaching materials and the function of modern media .
