The author surveys the conception of NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION and tries to redefine it in the paper when Chinese educators begin to research and pay attention to "the narrative approach to moral development". The author emphasizes that the discussion should be one of the inevitable steps of Moral Narrative. The author analyses the two factors of NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION: narrative and discussion. And he unscrambles their characteristics and the relation between their. On the groundwork, he classifies the narrative in NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION: the narratives could be classified into the narratives of students and the narratives of teachers basing on the narrators; and the narratives could be classified into the narratives about life experiences of the narrators and the narratives about other life experiences basing on the sources of narrative. The author puts his focal point on the analyzing the moral functions, and the principles and problems in experience of NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION.NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION brings its moral functions into play by putting the moral cognition, moral emotion, moral conation, moral action together. And the moral functions of NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION includes: helping the students understand the ethics and human; helping the students understand the meanings of life and spreads moral wisdom; giving guidance to the students as to moral needs; helping the students make moral choices freely; training the moral thinking of students—including training them thinking over moral questions carefully, the habit of thinking moral questions in transposition; helping students promote their moral level by making use of moral consensus; making effect on the ethic of students as a whole communication process. After analyzing three cases, the author thinks that some principles should be insisted in the application of NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION: the aim of NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION should not be surveying any individual; NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION should be applied on the basis of moralneeds of students, and the teachers should find it on his or her own initiative; the students have the freedom of expressing and choosing his or her moral ideas. The author argues that something should be paid more attention to in the application of NARRATIVE IN MORAL EDUCATION: the question of students' understanding; the question of fitting in with the students' moral needs by one of teachers' narratives; the question of affecting on the moral development of students by the teachers' manner of judge of narrative; the question of relationship between the teacher and the direction of students' moral consensus; the question how to keep the discussion smoothly.
