In this new era, there are many aspects, such as knowledge, information, and the desire to study, that require the existing educational system and its modes to keep pace with people's demand for education. So at the present and in the future it will be a main task for the educational organizations across the world to develop distance education, which will provide more flexible methods to meet the needs of students. Additionally, this distance education can break the restrictions of the traditional education system to offer the unlimited opportunities for every kind of person. Modern Networking communication technology has not only brought to modern people electronic information and new communication means, but also provided the platform and powerful technical support to make this distance education become true, and this leads to the innovation and development of the modern distance education. After having been developed from distance learning to electronic learning, the distance education is stepping into the new studying mode—Mobile learning (M-learning), which is based on the combination of mobile data communication technology and the wireless Internet. Learners can use portable wireless equipment, such as Laptops, a cell-phone, or PDA etc., accessing to M-learning system at any time and anywhere. The occurrence of M-learning declares a new life style and a kind of brand-new study mode.Although M-learning has been exiting for a few years, it has been accepted by learners, especially younger ones, because of its unique advantage. It has also drawn the concern and support of worldwide educational organizations. Being a member of the modern educational technology, it is necessary to explore sophisticated educational techniques and keep an eye on its development. This paper introduces the background of M-learning and studies its current states by analyzing the documents in and out of China. It attempts to illustrate the theory and practice of M-learning by employing the modern educational theories and study theories and to study what fields M-learning can be applied to and who will be more likely to practice M-learning. The paper discusses the enormous potentiality of M-learning by analyzing and comparing various kinds of media tools ever used in the distance education and characteristics of different modes of distance education. It arrives at the conclusion: the future of M-learning is bright in China!...
