The character condition of the primary and middle school students is good in general. Most of the students are diligent and eager to learn, they behave well in school, care about the future of our country, they are active in the understanding and investigation of reform and opening policy, they are ready to devote themselves to the revival of our country at any time. But we have to acknowledge that there are still some kinds of problems among them in their character development: Primary students with mental problems is about 13%; Junior middle school students about 15% compared with senior middle school students about 19%(College students more than 20%), which limits the improvement of teaching and does great harm to the forming of their integrated characters.The feature of the present situation of society:Knowledge is rapidly expended, opening-up is fully carried out, regional and international cooperation is becoming inseparable and the competition in top talents is becoming stronger and stronger. Talents who are open-minded ., with integrated character and capable both in specialty and other abilities are needed urgently. Being teaching staff in primary and middle schools, we should know more about the present condition of the students' character, according to the developing trend of the society and therequirement for different kinds of talents, study the related issues of character education for primary and middle school students, understand the related concepts . meaning and goals, grasp the principles . ways and methods of character education for primary and middle school students, develop the non-intelligence factors of the students, promote the teaching and moral education , cultivate students with integrated character to make them top talents for the socialist modernization of our country.The related concepts .. meanings and goals of character education :1.Related concepts(1) integrated character: People with integrated character should have no mental diseases, be positive and with optimism, they can face the realities in a right way, accept other people's opinions and adapt themselves to society happily, they dare to give and accept love, they can hold themselves successfully both in prosperity and adversity, continue to struggle to achieve the worth and final end of life with contribution to our country.(2)character education : On the basis of the understanding of the character feature of the primary and middle students , give them correct conducting, take some remedy measures for those who are non-integrated in character to balance their character developing and to form integrated character.2.The meaning of character education: (1) It is the actual need of the mental development of the young boys and girls. (2) It is the urgent need ofour country's development and modernization. (3) It is an important part of the quality education for youngsters. (4) It is the base of moral education for them..3.The goals of character education: to promote the character developing of the children and the teenagers ,to cultivate good qualities and integrated character.Countermeasures of character education:l.The principles of character education: (1) Individuation and socialization combining principle. (2) Penetrating in all directions principle. (3) Cognizing education and behavior training combining principle. (4) Early education principle. (5) Self-education, school education, family education and society education combining principle.2.Ways of character education: (1) Specialized ways, including related courses, mental problem consultation and mental treatment. (2) Amateurish ways, including creating suitable environment, among teaching of different subjects and class activities.3.Methods of character education: (1) Cognizing, including reading and listening to stories, medium teaching, art appreciation, association of ideas, cognizing changes and visiting.
