Great changes have taken place in higher education management system of China within 10 years from 1992 to 2002.With "the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education and the program of joint development, adjustment, cooperation and mergers",708 higher education institutions with simplex disicipline have been combined into 302 integrated ones, decreased by 406.However, the integration is just primary stage.It is importment for combined higher education institutions to adjust and integrate themselves, which is not only a crucial problem for their intending development, but a sticking point to verify the revolution policy. With the adjustment and integration of combined higher education institutions, many remarkable problems, for example, the disciplinary integration of combined higher education institutions appear.Disciplines are the primary elements of higher education institutions. The three traditional functions of higher education institutions-cultivate talent students, research and social service-all depend on disciplines. After combination, the combined higher education institutions marshal multifarious disciplines of original institutions, which establish a stage for the disciplinary integration. Therefore, it is significative to study the disciplinary integration of combined higher education institutions.This paper will clarify the definition of discipline, interdiscipline, disciplinary integration, analyze the law in the development of discipline, then, bring forward many suggestions to reinforce the disciplinary integration of combined higher education institutions.
