Mathematic curriculum Standard (laboratorial version) of ordinary senior high schools was issued in April, 2003. In this paper, "matrix and geometrical transformation" was fixed as a selected topic in domestic schools for the first time. So it becomes a meaningful work to study the setting background, fixing instruction aim, instruction contents, implementation, evaluation, etc, and to make a scientific, effective and feasible instruction design. The design in this paper can be used to guide instruction practice in senior high schools and to guide compiling of teaching materials. The setting condition of matrix and geometrical transformation in major developed countries was summarized firstly, it shows that matrix and geometrical transformation have entered senior high school course in these countries earlier. This fact gives us sufficient proof of setting matrix and geometrical transformation in domestic schools, the great education value of matrix and geometrical transformation, such as cultural value, intelligence value, application value, was discussed in succession, and several excellent examples in using were given. A systematic instruction design about matrix and geometrical transformation based on their logical system in senior high schools, aiming at the gain of knowledge andcultivation of capability, is given. After this, the learning analysis, contents analysis, target analysis, strategies making, fixing of teaching process, exploitation of instruction resource, implement, and evaluation were made.Secondly, some experimental work about matrix and geometrical transformation has been carried out so that above-mentioned instruction design can be tested. The results show that setting matrix and geometrical transformation as a selected topic at senior high schools is not only necessary but also feasible. This topic meets the characteristics of students in senior high schools, and can satisfy their development. The results also show that matrix and geometrical transformation can broaden span of view, boost up study interesting, promote development of capability, enhance self-confidence, and build up the ideal and skills of using mathematicsFinally, several suggestions about the compiling work of new teaching materials and teaching work in practice under new standard were given.
