The subjects of this paper are 44 middle-aged and elderly people who are not diseased seriously, and don't participate in sports often. They are divided into 4 groups according to their sexes and ages. In the group of middle-aged women, n=12 and the average age is 49.92; in the group of elderly women, n=11 and the average age is 60.73; in the group of middle-aged men, n=10 and the average age is 56.60; in the group of elderly men, n=ll and the average is 65.70. Before the training, blood is taken from each group to test MDA, SOD, NO, testosterone and estradiol. Each group practises Fitness Qigong and Baduanjin 50 minutes a day and 7 times each week in the morning following the instructors. 10 weeks later blood is taken again to test MDA, SOD, NO, testosterone and estradiol. The result of the experiment shows that after the 10-week training, the total values of NO and SOD in serum are remarkably higher than those before the training (P<0.05); the total value of MDA in serum is remarkably lower than that before the training (P<0.05). For the group of middle-aged women, there is no obvious change in the values of NO, MDA and SOD in serum before and after the training (P>0.05). For the group of elderly women, there is no obvious change in the values of NO and SOD in the serum before and after the training (P>0.05), but after the training the value of MDA in serum is lower than that before the training, showing a remarkable change (P<0.05). For the group ofmiddle-aged men, there is no obvious change in the values of NO, MDA and SOD in serum before and after the training (P>0.05). For the group of elderly men, the value of NO in serum is higher than that before the training, showing an obvious change (P<0.05), with SOD higher than before, signaling a marked change (P<0.01) and MDA lower than before, no change indicated (P>0.05). For the groups of men, serum testosterone is higher than before, with a distinct change (P<0.05) while for the group of elderly women, their estradiol is notably higher than before. A conclusion can be drawn that the accurate movements and continuous practice of Fitness Qigong and Baduanjin can raise the level of serum NO and the vigor of SOD and reduce the amount of serum MDA of the middle-aged and elderly people, thus preventing cardiovascular diseases and delaying the aging process. It also helps enhance the level of serum testosterone or estradiol by practicing Fitness Qigong and Baduanjin regularly.
