This paper investigates the influences of fitness Qigong (Baduanjin) on the Intellectual Physiological Age(IPA), blood lipid and physiological function of the elderly male people by experiment. The subjects of this experiment, between 60~69(the average age is 65.53)and from Anqing, Anhui, are 36 elderly male people with normal cardiopulmonary ability and without disability who are not diseased seriously and don't often participate in sports exercise. They are required to be divided into two groups randomly. In the group of Qigong, the number is 19 and the average age is 65.74; in the group of jogging, the number is 17 and the average age is 65.29. Before they begin to train, their IPA, blood pressure with quiet mood, vital capacity(VC), ability in grip, time span of standing with a single leg and eyes closed are tested, and blood is taken from each group to test TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C. The Qigong group practises Fitness Qigong (Baduanjin) following the instructors in the morning and 50 minutes a day, 5 times a week. The jogging group exercises 30~40 minutes a day and 5 times a week with prescribed intensity. The indexes mentioned above are tested again 3 months later. The research shows that after they have practised Fitness Qigong (Baduanjin) for 3 months, the three indexes, complex moment, count, and tracing, which reflect IPA of the elderly people, are better than those before the training (p<0.05). The two indexes, digit-symbol and recalling the digit are remarkably improved (p<0.01). The IPA of Qigong group is remarkably lower than that before the training (p<0.01). The TG and LDL-C in serum decrease and the HDL-C in serum increases remarkably (p<0.01). The VC, ability in grip, time span of standing with a single leg and eyes closed improve remarkably. Meanwhile, as far as the jogging group is concerned, only two indexes, complex moment and count, reflecting IPA of the elderly people, improve remarkably (p<0.05), and the other indexes change hardly. The TC,TG, HDL-C, LDL-C in serum change remarkably (p<0.01). The diastolic pressure decrease remarkably (p<0.05) and the VC improve obviously (p<0.01).By comparing the changes of all indexes, it is found that Fitness Qigong (Baduanjin) has better effects of decreasing IPA, improving the ability in grip and balance of lower links than jogging (p<0.05). On the other hand, the VC of the people in the jogging group is remarkably higher than that of the people in the Qigong group (p<0.01). A conclusion can be drawn that practicing Fitness Qigong(Baduanjin) regularly, for elderly male people, can decrease IPA, better the level of TG, HDL-C, LDL-C in serum and improve the VC, the ability in grip and balance of lower links, prevent cardiovascular diseases and delay the aging process, thus improving their life quality. For the elderly male people ,Fitness Qigong (Baduanjin) is a better method of exercise than jogging.
