Constructivism is a rapidly developed theory in recent years. The research and application of constructivism in psychology, sociology and education has become a trend. Constructivism has a great effect on the sphere of education. It is mainly displayed by the fact that constructivism sets forth a new viewpoint of knowledge and a new theory of study, reinterprets the essence of knowledge and the mechanism in which study happens, and further advocates a new model of class teaching and a new teacher-student relation. The 21st century is an era that admires the subjectivity of the individual and emphasizes the innovative ability of the individual. Thus it is demanded that teaching be fit for psychology, sociology, science, technology, art, and human nature. This demand is met by constructivism. After a survey of the current research, it is found that there are many instructions and analyses on constructivism learning theory and the application of constructivism in teaching. But the inadequate discussion of the function that constructivism plays on the sphere of curriculum, to some degree, restricts the effect that it should play on the reform of education. It is agreed that constructivism should play an important role in the sphere of curriculum, which is the core of education. Constructivism curriculum is meaningful in that it includes the experience of students in the sphere of curriculum, and then makes students have their own subjectivity. With the guide of dialectical materialism and historical materialism, the dissertation is to make a brief review of constructivism theory, and attempts to construct the essence and the characteristics of constructivism curriculum. Such methods as literature method, analysis method, and comparison method are mainly applied in the dissertation.The dissertation has four parts:Part one is an explanation of constructivism. It illuminates the cognitive type of constructivism, introduces the origin and development of constructivism in philosophy,3sociology and psychology, and makes a detailed summary of viewpoint of knowledge by constructivism.Part two is about the essence and characteristics of constructivism curriculum. Based on the introduction of the historical development of curriculum, by making an analysis of the meaning, the essence and characteristics of constructivism curriculum, it draws a conclusion that the essence of constructivism curriculum is its constructivism and subjectivity and constructivism curriculum is complete, interactive and open.Part three focuses on the constructivism design. It analyzes the design principles that constructivism curriculum follows. On the basis of these principles, it illustrates the purpose of constructivism curriculum and introduces briefly the means of choosing and organizing the content of constructivism curriculum and the characteristics of the content.Part four is on the enforcement and evaluation of constructivism curriculum. The aim of constructivism curriculum should be displayed on the enforcement of curriculum. Constructivism curriculum gives a new explanation of the teacher-student relation during the process of enforcing the curriculum, for the purpose of constructivism curriculum is to realize the subjectivity of students. The evaluation of constructivism curriculum differs greatly from the traditional curriculum evaluation, and it puts more emphasis on the stimulating and encouraging function on the hierarchical classification of evaluation than on the controlling function. Moreover, the subject, standard and the means of evaluation constructivism curriculum has many new characteristics.
