With the arrival of lifelong learning and learning society, mastering the methods of learning becomes a necessary social skills student must master, however, autonomous learning is the basis of life-long learning. Now, new curriculum reform is comprehensively promoted in china. Changing the way students learn is the significant features and core tasks of the curriculum reform. But, autonomous learning plays crucial role in the three learning ways which are advocated. So promoting students'autonomous learning is the important content and tasks in the implementation of new curriculum and the reform of teaching.In this background, in order to understand the status of high school students'biology self-learning ability in Lanzhou, firstly combing and analyzing the theory of independent study and research in domestic and foreign ;Then based on the analysis of the literature ,conducted a questionnaire survey about 564 high school students in Lanzhou and the 12 students of them are interviewed; This paper selects three teachers as the object of observation ,though the classroom observation to form a case , and find the way teachers impact on the students' autonomous learning ability .The following are the conclusions of the study:1. The overall level of high school students'biological self-learning ability is low. In the new curriculum, students'learning style need to be changed and autonomous learning ability needs to be improved.2.students have relatively high autonomy in the learning process, that is self-regulating, self-monitoring, overcoming mental and physical obstacles .But in interviews, we kown that the power are more from external motivation ,such as teachers, parents and study pressure, but students are lack of internal motivation.3. Students have the lowest autonomy in creating an environment conduction, moreover the autonomy of using the social environment is the worst.4. Students of different genders and different grades(High School, Middle School) ,the Biological autonomous learning ability don't have significant difference. But students who are in different types of school have significant differences. The students of provincial high school have the highest level of self-learning ability, but students of general high school are at a relatively low level of autonomous learning ability .5. High school students have mastered more general learning strategies, especially in response to the examination strategy. But the autonomous learning strategies students have mastered are more single and lack of organization and finishing strategies, moreover can't flexibly apply.6. High school students have weak consciousness of self-examination and self-evaluation ,and most students rely on the evaluation of teachers.7. Now teachers are of favorable factor and adverse factor in the development of students autonomous learning ability .For the problems, according to the theory and the new curriculum's requirements, the article put forward the corresponding strategies and recommendations for the students and teachers, hope to help students form and improve autonomous learning ability.
