This study explores the framework and content of learning mental qualities for middle school students. The study focuses on the key ingredients of learning mental quality. The purpose of this research is to set up a scientific and practical Learning Mental Qualities Scale for the middle school students.The LMQS's development was based on theoretical and experiential strategies. The primary structure and content of the scale were proposed by drawing forefather's study, interviewing teachers and surveying students with opened and half-opened questionnaires. The structure of the scale was confirmed after testing and selecting items for 3 times then the formal scale was developed. We adopted the samples in proportion to the hierarchy in Chengdu, Nanchong and Neijiang. Formal samples consist of 1600 students from 5 middle schools. LMQS's items, reliabilities and validities were tested by various measurement methods. And then we discuss the developmental characteristics of learning mental qualities of the middle school students. The conclusions of the study are as follows:(1)Learning mental qualities of middle school students is a structure of 13 first level factors, which are initiative, ideation, self-confidence, responsibility, optimism compulsion, diligence, monitoring, frustration, endurance, methods, independence, innovation, persist.(2)Learning mental qualities scale of middle school students has good reliability and validity, can serve as a tool to measure the learning mental qualiiies of middle school students in our country. (3)The development level of learning mental qualities of middle school students is in the middle level. Learning mental qualities of middle school students have great difference in grade and the type of school:Students from key middle school are more than ordinary middle school students in the level of learning mental qualities. There is no significant difference between boys and girls. There is a significant positive correlation between learning mental qualities and grades. The ugenic group and difference groups have significant differences in the level of learning mental qualities.
