Mental rotation is a kind of transform ability of space rotation that imagine yourself or object representation. It is one of the important standard of measuring the spatial intelligence. From the beginning of the 70’s twentieth Century, it has been an important topic in space representation and cognitive domain. The mental rotation ability isn’t only one of the basic components of human spatial ability, but also an active research in today’s society. There are many famous scholars focused on this topic. And the related theories are very rich. Spatial intelligence, as an important part of education and educational practice, is closely related to human life. Because of the less of studies between abilities and chemical learning, it resulted the lack of recognition, and brought certain difficulties in chemical teaching. The purpose is to understand the association between mental rotation abilityof middle school students and to explore the gender, grade, chemistry learning andmental rotation ability.The experiment randomly selected 140 middle school students from Hunan normal university high school in Changsha, Jinghong middle school in Zhuzhou, Lianyuan Art School in Lianyuan. By using the SPEED mental rotation test(mental rotation test) software. And the test materials are "flag" patterns in 2D. The experiment testes the mental rotation ability of middle school students, as well as, compares and discusses the test data.The results show that:(1) There are significant gender differences in middle students’ mental rotation abilities. And the mental rotation abilities of boys are better than girls;(2) Middle school students’ mental rotation abilities have significant grade differences. Along with the grade increasing, as well as the increase of chemical knowledge, the abilities of mental rotation become stronger;(3) The chemical learning can effectively promote the development of middle school students’ mental rotation abilities.
