| This essay is based on the survey about Senior One students'gymnastics skills (those sample students come from four senior high schools in three districts), the questionnaire for some P.E. teachers from nine districts, members of P.E subject center and leader of teaching and research group from certain district in Shanghai, the interviews with several senior learned teachers. The writer also made some visits or telephone visits with some middle school P.E. teachers during the process of essay writing. Those mentioned aspects help the writer gain further insight into the current situation of gymnastics teaching and seek the root of those drawbacks, thereby finding solutions. The writer hopes the gymnastics teaching materials can be put into practice better, so the quality of gymnastics teaching can be effectively improved for embodying the ideas of the 2nd stage of the Curricula Innovation.The research shows:the current situation of gymnastics teaching among Shanghai middle schools is far from satisfactory, and the teaching materials are not carried out perfectly. The majority of the teachers are not fit for gymnastics teaching because of their insufficient intellectual structure. School status, income, injuries and other factors lead to the existence of negative attitudes on gymnastics teaching among those P.E. teachers. The urgent needs of the majority of teachers are having the demonstration of gymnastic skills and teaching skills training for improving teaching gymnastics in each district. The writer also hopes or inquires that there will be uniform training for those P.E. teachers in Grade Nine. Students can hopefully recognize the exercise value of gymnastics items. However, the limits of learning basic, some unreasonable points in gymnastics teaching material compile, gymnastic equipment shortage or equipment problems, insufficient work in P.E. teaching and research group, the arrangements of evaluation objects in the textbooks and the orientation of high school entrance examination, all cause some details can't be carried out perfectly. These factors all restrict the development of gymnastics teaching.In view of the above situation, this paper has put forward the following Suggestions Take the PE teachers specialized training in gymnastics by direct, improving teachers'professional training gymnastics teaching level is the most emergency thing we should do first.We need more details formulated the campus accident treatment regulations, in order to make teachers and school leaders worry-free. Improve the teaching hours about gymnastics teaching and improve the teaching environment and special field and the equipment standards. Take the competition between the elementary school and middle school. Reform the Physical examination. College sports education in training students in the class, should increase gymnastics teaching hours, strengthen the contact with the school and the students. Employ skilled gymnastics teachers in the first division of teaching, and make them put special attention on improving students'gymnastics teaching skill. To strengthen the effectiveness scientific and normative of sports research work, the school sports teaching should strengthen the leadership of the examination; Supervisor Office should strengthen thinning the supervisor and evaluation.
