Experiences of Western countries in social development have shown that a reasonable social structure must be a"two ends small, the middle large"social structure, which is something like an"olive type", can reduce the social risks. That is, a stable and harmonious social structure should have a large middle class group. Middle class is the most important social force to maintain social stability and promotion of democratic development. Now, the social class structure of China is only a prototype of the modern class structure, far from the reasonable structure. The reality of China's social class situation at this stage is that: upper class is a very small; middle and lower classes are too large; especially farmers from the lower class take up a large share. This is obviously like a"pyramid type". Middle class can not become the backbone of social stability, because its overall size is relatively small and its strength is weak.In the process of realizing the basic modernization in China, the most important task is to effectively develop the social structure toward the reasonable"olive type"social structure. This social structure is closely related to the healthy and harmonious development of Chinese society. So the purpose of expanding China's middle class group is to achieve common prosperity for the majority of the Chinese people and realize social class structure transform to the"olive type". This is a fundamental way of building a harmonious society. In short, in order to build a harmonious socialist society, the most important task is to expand and nurture the middle class, which is led to form a modern society. This modern society must have reasonable class structure——the"Olive"social structure, in which middle class is the majority of the whole society. In this thesis, the author sees the essential relationship between building a harmonious socialism society of China and expanding middle class group of China. The author hopes that, through the analysis of this thesis, the development of Chinese middle class get more attention, and make people aware of the significance of expanding middle class to build a harmonious society.
