The legal education at the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of Republic of China is the process of the collision and fusion between the east and western legal cultures. It introduced the neoteric and modern legal civilization in the west, and fostered a great number of legal specialists & jurists, which promoted the modernization of Chinese laws. The reform and development for present legal education should and can draw on the experience from the practice of the neoteric legal education in China in order to meet the requirement of the development of democracy & governing by law, keeping up with social economy, and provide sufficient & qualified legal personnel to the country.Chapter 1 analyzes the historical background and the reasons to generate the legal education at the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of Republic of China. First of all, the generation of legal education results from the rising of neoteric western political education thought trends and also the underdeveloped China learning from the advanced western countries. Secondly it is the result of the abolishment of the imperial examination system. Legal education came into being as the substitution of the traditional imperial examination system and the first direct reason is caused by the constitutionalism & law revision implemented by the Qing imperial government, which has no choice but to fulfill the neoteric legal education with complement, effecting and affecting to each other.Chapter 2 makes the overall comments on the legal education at the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of Republic of China, summarizes the achievements obtained and influence to modernization of Chinese laws and specifies the contributions made by legal personnel in legal & political construction.Chapter 3 analyzes the legal education at the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of Republic of China, explains the development limitation under the framework of ruling by men and draws a conclusion that this type of legal education only shows loyalty to the imperial government and can never serves the people.Chapter 4 discusses the inspiration of the legal education at the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of Republic of China to present one, analyzes the legal education under the current system, and comes to the conclusion that legal education shall have long-term characteristic as well as temporal spirit through reference to history.
