In china, there are varieous kinds of Art-Painting, and amang all of these paternshas the even longest history.we can also call it portrait, has experienced continual development,whose theme has gradually expanded from the political in palace at the beginning to practicality among the people, then extended to lyricism and artistry among the literati.Due to the development of economy, the expansion of urban citizenlization, the invasion of foreign capitalism, the influx of western art and the change of aesthetic idea, portrait has developed into a wide range of trends during the Ming and Qing periods.Under this historial background, ZengJing and RenBonian stood out because of the particular style and perfect technique. What's more, they have made great contributions to the development of portrait.This essay will analyze and compare the formal language including the structure, modelling, painting between CengJing and RenBonian's works, by doing this in order to understand their original art spirit and practical significance in profound perspective.The essay divides into five parts:First, introduce the development of Chinese traditional portrait, define portrait and overview the development of traditional portrait.Second, discuss the influences of different background on the ZengJing's and RenBonian's portraits. From the viewpoint of the background of them, the differences between their portraits are analysedThird, we analyse the artistic characteristics of ZengJing and RenBonian's portraits focusing on their works of art. In addition, we compare the layout,the line,the modeling,the colors in order to understand their art symbols and style in profound perspective.Fourth, the original contribution of the heritage and development of art styles by ZengJing and RenBonian. We give an insight into their unique artistic style whichhas be shown in their works.Fifth, we research the realistic significance of the art styles of ZengJing and RenBonian's portraits in order to enlighten the current art creators by using their unique spirit of art practiceIn the context of diversification of art creation, the portrait art is colorful in china. Facing these significant developments, CengJing and RenBonian's portraits provide a reference and thinking model on how to respect tradition but not be constrained by tradition, how to combine the traditional language of ink with the modem context, how to use western art for reference and keep the localization of language forms.Today, reviewing the aesthetic value and historical value of the traditional portrait, we find that it can't be replaceable by any painting subjects, while be highly emphasized.
