RenBoNian(1840-1895),as one of the most outstanding great masters in early Shanghai, his pictorial painting and birds and flowers painting are his highest achievement. His figure paintings inheritates the literati paintings , combines the traditional and western aesthetic idea and modelling method as well as secular aesthetic temperament and interest, are more close to life and to reality.He resists the stylized tendency of traditional way, interpretes the traditional Chinese painting with new method and leads them to ordinary mass groups. The creation techniques and painting thought of RenBoNian's figure painting not only affects the Shanghai art circle at the time, but also plays an important guiding role in the development of Chinese painting and its current teaching and innovation.There is still strong practical significance in RenBoNian's artistic innovation and the new research direction he provides in the combinition of western and traditional art form and the development of contemporary Chinese figure painting. This paper is mainly aimed to study the research modern figure painters did in their early year on RenBoNian's painting, summarize through their own words and their comments inscribed in the process of learning RenBoNian, present RenBoNian's influence on them through the contrast of their works. This paper is divided into five parts.The first part briefly analyzes RenBoNian life the background and the art effects of his predecessors.The second part analyzes RenBoNian's major works and artistic style changes, including his art limitations.The third part analyzes main several contemporary paintings of reference and inheritance on RenBoNian, namely, xu Chiang school, zhe school and Shanghai school.The fourth part...
