Zeng Jing. the word Bo Chen, a famous portrait painter in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, was born in the Ming Jiajing 44 years (1565). died in Shunzhi four years (1647). Zeng Jing.a native of Fujian Putian, his art career was mainly in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the portrait tended to be secular. The portrait skills of "Mogu" pioneered by Zeng Jing, was favored and reputed by men of literature and writing, followed by many disciples, forming the first School of painting, named after the artist name "Bo Chen painting" in the history.In this paper, mainly from the perspective of the theory’s image, having the portrait image of Zeng Jing as the research object, the natural meaning, traditional and symbolic connotation of the portrait images is researched progressively.The following four aspects are included in this paper:Firstly, the basic development of traditional portrait is sort out and the lifetimeSecondly, the first level of the meaning of the interpretation of art works according to Erwin Panofsky image theory, the visual perception of the image of the Zeng Jing’s portrait is analyzed.Thirdly, the second level of the meaning of the interpretation of art works according to Erwin Panofsky image theory, the traditional meaning of the style of Zeng Jing is inquiried thoroughly from the external factors and internal factors in the specific historical period.Fourthly, the third meaning of the interpretation of art works according to Erwin Panofsky image theory, the attitude of Zengjing to life is explained implicitly, the potential meanings and symbolic connotation in the image is also explored.
