Study On Mt.Tai Belief In Shandong Region During The Ming And Qing Dynasties

This paper aims to have a general study on situation of Mount Tai Faith in the Local Chronicles of Shandong Province.Mount Tai Faith is originated from mountain worship, the Faith in Deities is an-important part in Mount Tai Faith.As an integrative work of the local information integration, the Local Chronicles of Shandong Province had record a large number of valuable the contents of Mount Tai Faith in Deities.The research content of this paper is the two Mount Tai Deities which are Dongyue the Great and Bixia Yuanjun. From the 220 kinds of the Local Chronicles,this paper combs out the relevant resource of the two Mount Tai Deities. This thesis has a wide discussion about Mount Tai Faith condition of the residents from Shandong during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, using the theory and methods of Folkloristic, History and Documentation Science. this paper mainly focuses on the Mount Tai Faith from the perspective of the Local Chronicles.So,this paper may contribute to the study of Multi-angle Mount Tai Faith.There are four parts of this thesis, including an introduction part, main body of four chapters and a conclusion part.The introduction part mainly discussed the significance and genesis of selecting this topic, the research materials and methods, the relevant review of the academic history of this topic.The first chapter tells about local chronicles of Shandong Province and Mount Tai Faith, mainly describes the overview of Mount Tai Faith, local chronicles of Shandong Province handed down from ancient times and retrieval of Mount Tai Faith in the local chronicles of Shandong Province, introduceing in detail the Mount Tai Faith in the local chronicles.The following two chapters mainly discussed Faith on Dongyue the Great and Bixia Yuanjun in the local chronicles of Shandong Province. The two chapters are same with the same narrative way. According to the local chronicles, the two chapters has discussed respectively the space-Time distribution of Dongyue the Great and Bixia Yuanjuns'temple, showing the two deities'space-time distribution in ways of the picture. Morever, the two chapters has discussed the rebuilding survey of Dongyue the Great and Bixia Yuanjuns'temple and te Faith ativities of the Official and the People, combing and commenting the main contents of Mount Tai Deities'Faith in the local chronicles of Shandong Province.The Forth chapter tells about the Incense Societies and Temple Fairs in the Local Chronicles of Shandong Province. The main content of the Incense Societies is the organization and the relevant ceremony of the Incense Societies. The content of Temple Fairs tells about the different openning times, scales and the main activities of Temple Fairs of all parts of Shandong Province. This chapter shows another faith state of the people.The last part is conclusion,basing on such analysis, which analyzes the shortcoming of Mount Tai Faith recorded in the local chronicles and briefly explains the inconvenience that these shortcomings further explore the faith state of the people. At the same time, as contrasted with the other materials, this chapter further points out that the local chronicles is an important materials to study Mount Tai Faith, and illustrates the significance on studying Mount Tai Faith from a point of the local chronicles.
