The local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain is a chorography about mountain or orography which mainly recorded the Hengshan Mountain in Hunan province, including its evolution, scenery, specialties, visiting, writings about it, monks and Taoists, customs and so on, and is one of the traditional history books, which is the field and object of the historical research. To study it, can not merely strengthen and deepen the research of historiography history, local chronicle and culture history, so has a strong theoretical significance; Meanwhile, the research of the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain can offer the theoretical foundation for local development, especially serving the today’s tourism of Nanyue Mountain, also provide the reference for today’s compiling local chronicles about Nanyue mountain or other mountains, therefore has strong practical significance. However, the academia utilize the material in the local records to carry on the research of other themes more now, pay attention to it and the orography field itself not enough, and the study about it is relatively simple and plain. Specific to the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain, in addition to a number of bibliographies with description and introduction and a few informal documents on Internet site of historical culture about Hengshan Mountain, there are no other research achievements, and systematic research is blank. Because of this, the author of this thesis makes a attempt for in-depth study of the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain, in other words of orography, using theories and methods such as history, culture ecology, statistics, sociology etc. to carry on text analysis synthetically, which tries to reveal the law of historical development of the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain, the status of its compiling and organization, and its influence and value on the basis of sorting out the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain in successive dynasties conscientiously. The thesis is divided into seven parts.In the first part, the thesis defines that the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain, as the research object, is one kind of the traditional history books, which are the historiography research category, and then analysis the theory and academic significance of the research. But through the review and combing of the academic history we found out that there was no formal research about it, therefore the value of the research was more distinct, which not only would fill the research blank of the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain, and deepen the study of the history or other, but also provide a theoretical basis for better implementation of its value of aiding the government to decide.In the second part, according to the changes and differences of which Nanyue Mountain was Jiangnan Heng or Jiangbei Heng in the history, the thesis carries on textual researches on its name origin and changes and makes certain that the object of the research is the series of orography about Hengshan Mountain in Hunan province. The rules of its development in the process is found through the preliminary analysis on the versions, titles, contents, styles and the authors of the existing special books about Nanyue Mountain as the representative, according to which we can divided it into five stages:sprouting, developing, maturity, incubation and fresh development period. Each stage shows different characteristics and becomes more and more perfect and more scientificity, objectivity and contemporary overall.In the third part, it is found that the funds of their compiling and inscribing mostly depend on the authors’raising money independently through different channels; and in the repairing and writing process almost all authors will carry on the collection of a large number of firsthand materials besides taking the former special books about Nanyue Mountain as the main data sources; the principal authors are composed of individuals at the previous stage, while at the later stage gradually became the group cooperation; what’s more, these special books are finished in a short time. The authors of the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain are different and their cultural identities, purposes and backbones of the writing are different too:such as the authors from Taoism or Buddhism aims to propagate their religions that belongs to, while Confucians have the purposes of preserving history materials, aiding the government to decide and expressing their worship to Nanyue Mountain.In the fourth part, the thesis analyzes one character of the contents about emperors’ worship of the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain. The local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain recorded a large number of emperors’worshiping activities which lead the persons in every stratum at that time to do so and popularize later. The phenomenon was recorded by the later special books about Nanyue Mountain in addition to the sprouting ones. The emperors and kings from the ancient time to the last emperor Dynasty almost all worshiped the Nanyue Mountain, only the subjects of worship were emperors or kings themselves in their inspecting and patrolling while were special envoys after Emperor Wei Wen Di. Going to holding a memorial ceremony and sacrifice was for nothing more than the two, that was emperor’s personal reason such as ascending the throne etc. and state’s reason such as dispatching troops etc. We should objectively look at it in an overall way from the angle of its impacts since the Worship activities had not only the positive effects such as contributing to improve the status of the Nanyue Mountain, the development and construction of Nanyue Mountain, but also the negative effect such as having increased the local people’s burden and promoting the superstition.In the fifth part, the thesis analyzes one character of the contents about harmonious development and co-prosperity of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism on Nanyue Mountain of the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain. Nanyue Mountain was known as a famous culture mountain where Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism were developing harmoniously and commonly very early which the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain recorded. These books mainly recorded the cultural characters from the former three culture field, their stories, the main places where they developed their activities, namely buildings. Through the information be recorded, we can find out the origins and development stream of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism on Nanyue Mountain, which have developed in a mutual infiltration, mutual integration, coexistence and common prosperity way and with the inseparable supports from the governments or the upper stratum.In the sixth part, the thesis analyzes one character of the contents about tourist activities of the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain. The local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain almost all have the purpose of making traveling or touring ease for people, which also recorded a large number of visitors and the tour trail, but these visitors recorded are mostly the famous personages, ordinary visitors have not been input. Represented by these visitors, it is found that the visitors of the Nanyue Mountain mainly come from the local close-range area, Hunan Province, and its visitors’geographical distribution is also affected by political, cultural beliefs and economic development etc.of the departure area. In addition to tourists, the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain also records a large number of tourism resources, which are main natural landscapes represented by seventy-two peaks and the human landscapes represented by architectural monuments. From this, we can get some beneficial enlightenment for tourism development of Nanyue Mountain, especially in the respect of development of resources and market exploring.In the seventh part, the thesis analyzes the value and influence of the local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain. They are not dusty due to a certain degree of preservation and publication, and have been spread. In the theory field, except the influence on its later local chronicles of Nanyue Mountain, it is found that the impacts on other books spreading over four kinds books of Confucian classics, history, philosophy and literature, and there are nearly195books after preliminary counting. Also they have some functions in social reality such as the landscape construction, auxiliary monk land ownership management and the guiding. In this view, it came from history, inevitable with the prints of the time, but if adopt "Bring the doctrine ", its value is also very obvious on today’s historiography research, economic construction and cultural dissemination and preservation.
