Currently, the director is usually studied as an auteur of a film in the academic study of doing the film. Although, instead of public studies, this thesis focuses on Lilian Lee, a screenwriter, who owns a unique film system style. Unlike the other screenwriters, all the eight films written by Lee were adapted from her novels. Moreover, these films have obtained some success whether commercially or artistically."Lilian Lee Phenomenon" should be conducted on a deeper level of research in the theory of film. Unfortunately, there is still no system elaboration about the films of Lee so far. While in the mainland, most of the researches for Lilian Lee are staying in the aspect of her literature achievements, especially the awareness of Hong Kong implied in her novels. On the other hand, the studies about her adapted films are always focusing on some single famous movies. Based on the above situation, I have studied up on all the eight films from Lee to excavate a series of characteristics and deep meaning from the perspective of screenwriter. Thus, I have come up with and demonstrate a brave proposal-"Lilian Lee Film", a systematic film phenomenon. The scope of this study is only locked on the "narrative"on the story level of films, not to challenge the "autuer theory". Through the research, I will conclude the success of "Lilian Lee Film", as well as analyse the film system profoundly on the level of philosophy and aesthetic, which covering feminism and new historicism, etc. It aims at giving a clear outline of "Lilian Lee Film"to further establish the status of Lee, a screenwriter, as the auteur of films. The ultimate destination of the thesis is to advocate the academic attention and research for the other sections in the process of film making except directors.
