The extent of people's understanding of Japan in the Ming Dynasty is a hot spot for studying on the relationships between China and Japan. People are full of enthusiasm for researching in the Ming Dynasty, because of Japanese pirates and other reasons. In addition, a lot of books, which not only include official history, but also private books, published in the reign of Jiajing and Wanli, that are very important information for studying on relationships between China and Japan in the Ming Dynast. Qian tai wo zuan, written by XieJie, finished in the reign of Wanli, is a typical and classical book which aimed at discussing about preventing invasion from Japanese pirates. No matter the background, data sources, its content or intellectual analysis, Qian tai wo zuan can be regarded as a great book with the Ming Dynasty time characteristic.The article divides into four parts:In the first part, we analyze the background why there were many private books published in the Ming Dynasty in term of the author of qian tai wo zuan, the relationship of China and Japan since Yuan and Ming Dynasty.In the second part, we focus on sources of qian tai wo zuan. We find that many of the sources are from these books, which not only include official history, but also private books, such as chou hai tu bian, and so on. Also it shows reasons why the author of qian tai wo zuan did not quote information from ri ben yi jian. At last, we analyze sources of expedition to resist the Japanese and to support Korea.In the third part, the book could be divided into two parts, according to the contents of qian tai wo zuan. One part focuses on the general situation of Japan, such as geography and the humanities, and the other part tells how against Japanese pirates.In the forth part, we combine the content which we mentioned earlier, we analyze the key point, ambivalence, and other views of the author research about Japanese situation and the relationship between China and Japan.
