Two prepositional frames of"wei"class in modern Chinese language are studied in the following thesis:"为/为了/为着……而……"和"为/为了/为着……起见". I have given these two prepositional frames a fully study and analysis. Altogether, the thesis is composed of four chapters except for the preface and conclusion. In Chapter One, I have mainly talked about the characteristic of the inner structure in the two prepositional frames. Firstly, I have discussed what kind of elements can be introduced into the frames and thus have drawn the conclusion that nouns, nominal phrases, pronouns, numerals and verbs, verb phrases and adjectives can be introduced by the preposition of"wei"class within these two frames. Secondly, I have analyzed what can be used after the conjunction"而"within the frames and have found that it depends on what meaning the sentence is to carry.Chapter Two mainly deals with the syntax distribution and the syntax function of the two prepositional frames. Through further analysis, I have found the frames can be used at the beginning, in the middle and even in the end of a sentence. Meanwhile, their syntax function is flexible and verified. Furthermore, we have tried to discuss the default rules at the end of this chapter. In Chapter Three, I have analyzed the semantic patterns of the two frames. On the whole, the frames can hold purpose meaning, cause meaning and both purpose and cause meaning. I have also analyzed the difference of the introduced elements within the frames while carrying different meanings. In the last chapter we have just discussed the pragmatic functions of the two prepositional frames. Their pragmatic functions can be classified into five ones: topic marking function, discourse cohesion function, scoping function, parallelizing function and emphasizing function.
