With cross-cultural communication among countries being deepened and extended, the mass media has become an important aid for cross-cultural communication. Newspapers, radios, movies, television series and the Internet are helping people quickly establish friendship and cooperation. Among these types of mass media instruments, movie and television series carry abundant culture elements and can spread conveniently and effectively. Therefore, the translation of names of movies and television series is very important. Movies and television series have two such characteristics as being cultural as well as commercial. When translating the names of movies and television series, we had better take these two characteristics into full consideration. The names of movies and television series are like labels which decide whether or not the movies and television series can be "sold". This paper attempts to analyze translation principles from the prospect of psychological context through name translations of some movies and television series. The psychological context can be divided into individual psychological context and social psychological context. Put it simply, we may say it is "the mental context". We can say that the psychological context is the psychological background. It is the psychological profile of an individual formed in his growth process and affected by a variety of external factors. It has both identity and diversity. The reason we say it has identity is that it is influenced by many macro-factors, such as socio-political psychological factors (political events, impact of social and political atmosphere on people's psychology) and socio-cultural psychological factors (national culture factors, geographical psychological factors), etc.; the reason that we say it has diversity is due to personal-cultural psychology (sub-consciousness, personality), personal knowledge and artistic accomplishments, including the level of education, cultural deposits, occupation, as well as aesthetic experience, temperament and other individual-specific factors that vary from person to person. The psychological context therefore shaped, of course, varies from person to person. These factors in the formation of the psychological context generate significant impacts on cross-cultural communication. This paper mainly analyzes this problem from the angle of individual psychological context.
