The development of the Chinese opera has gone through a bumpy journey of 80 to 90 years. Seeing through its developing in the 20th century, we can get its track: the building of women role in the aesthetic principles has acted as the main line runs through the history, and become a national style and unique characteristics in Chinese opera, which sharply contrasts to the male characters in the western opera and is worthy of our deep thinking and further research.Professor Guo Jianmin said:"Singing is the truth of history, document is the most rational memory, audio and video is the most vivid images."By learning and reflecting history, we can go farther. This article will follow the footsteps of our predecessors, rationally presenting a real and historical arrangement of the singing roles of women in Chinese opera from 1980's to the end of the 20th century. Focusing on the leading actresses in five classic operas——Yin Xiumei (decorated Zijun ) in the"The Past"; Wan Shanhong (decorated Jin Zi) in the"Fields"; Peng Liyuan (decorated Tian Yumei) in the"Daughters of the Party"; Wang Jing (decorated Chan Juan) in the"Qu Yuan"; Yao Hong (decorated Na Rengaowa) in the"Zan Yuen", the author studies their singing, exploring the multi-characteristics and general rules in the art of singing for the female actresses in Chinese opera, in the hope that this study can perform an enlightenment in the our current vocal music performing and teaching.The full text is divided into six parts:Introduction is mainly on the study of the need for women in the singing of Chinese opera from the 1980's to the end of 20th century. To facilitate the discussion, the authors would like to limit the scope of the study time period as"this time"instead.The first chapter covered the current study in both China and the foreign countries, and as well as historically retrospect the Chinese opera and the development of women roles in the singing.The second chapter focused on the cultural background, character roles, and musical shape analysis female leading characters in different periods.Chapter three would analyze five famous artists respectively——Yin Xiumei (decorated Zijun ), Wan Shanhong (decorated Jin Zi), Peng Liyuan (decorated Tian Yumei), Wang Jing (decorated Chan Juan), Yao Hong (decorated Na Rengaowa), which is the main part of this paper, consisting of five parts. Chapter five presented a comprehensive evaluation of the five artists, and explored the multi-characteristics and general rules in the art of singing for the female actresses in Chinese opera.The conclusion reiterated the historic meaning and evaluation in the study of women's singing in the China's opera and gave out a brief discussion and outlook of the development of contemporary Chinese opera.
