Zheng Junli (1911-1969) is a Chinese famous film artist, film theorist and film historian. His works on film history, film performance and film direction are arranged and analyzed in the article. For it's hard to reach every aspect, this paper just aims to be innovate.Firstly, Zheng Junli's Materialist View of History. Commencing on Zheng Junli's Materialist View of History, the scope of the Zheng Junli's comment of film history is expounded in the paper. Then basing on unscrambling the literature about comment of film history left over by Zheng Junli, and combining with the comment of the same period, the book A Brief History of Chinese Film written by Zheng Junli is analyzed detailed and systemic on its views, methods and characters. As a conclusion, the comment described by Zheng Junli represents the level of the study about the comment of film history of the specific historical stage. Meanwhile, taking the works created by Zheng Junli at different periods as examples, the paper reveals the evolutionary relationship between Zheng's conception of history and his works.Secondly, Zheng Junli and Stanislavski System. Zheng Junli was the first translator and modifier of Stanislavski Theory in China. Taking advantage of his dual role as actor and theorist, Zheng combined Stanislavski Theory and Chinese performance model creatively. His work The Birth of Role, which was seemed as a classic example of sinicizing Stanislavski System, opened a way for the exchange between the art of the west and the east and broke a new path for Chinese film performance theory. The paper takes specific analysis about this.Thirdly, Zheng Junli as a film director. Among the whole life of Zheng, the research and creation of film theory was the most important part. He sought for new methods of film representation, probed the road of nationalization for Chinese movie, and finally achieved great achievements. However, because of the limitation of the period, irreparable pity was also left. By analyzing his works, combining with the development of time, the paper summarizes Zheng's experience and misunderstanding, analyzes the relationship between his theory and creation, and finally gains an all-around evaluation about his achievement as a director.
