During the period of the Anti-Japanese War in China,the documentary was the most mainstream film form under the government-run film system.The purpose was to show the various events that occurred during the Anti-Japanese War in China and to present China's great contribution to the War of Resistance Against Japan.Among the many home-front documentaries which during the War of Resistance Against Japan,“Long Live the Nation”directed by Zheng Junli was quite unique.The theme of “national unity”and “anti-japanese war and building the nation”,exceeded the news broadcast documentary form,served as a pioneer of Ethnology documentaries.It even became the most representative work of the Chongqing Record School during the Great Rear Period.This work is also a turning point in the career of Zheng Junli's film art: from the performance to the directoring's turn.it was the practice of this documentary.This undoubtedly put Zheng Junli into a new film movement after the war and made him well prepared to set off the climax of realism creation in Chinese film history.As a film theorist,film artist,and a director,Zheng Junli translated and posted a tons of great theoretical works in his life,meanwhile constributed great films those were acted or directed by him.This study below,focuses on: to learn “Long Live the Nation”,which has been hard but full of creative spirits,to further confirms its position and original contribution in the history of Chinese record films,to discusses its far-reaching influence of his career and setting ideas of realism creation for post-war new films as well.The body of this study is divided into three parts:The first part analyzes the special historical context of the rise of the record film in the great rear area,summarizes the overall characteristics of the Chongqing record school,describes and locates the historical coordinates of“Long Live the Nation”.In the second part,the“breaking”and“creativity”of the large-scale comprehensive documentary “Long Live the Nation”: Through the study of the director Zheng junli's film creation process,and how he explained his breakthrough in the traditional documentary and the new concept displayed in “Long Live the Nation”.The third part first describes the background of the post-war new film creation and the basic situation of Chinese film creation during this period,and then takes “Crows and Sparrows”&“The River Flows Eastwards”as a case to analyze the direct influence of “Long Live the Nation” on the realistic creative ideas and creative techniques of the new post-war films of himself,In order to deepen the understanding of Zhengjunli's contribution to the history of Chinese films.Through the elaboration of the three parts above,we hope to find the basis for linking the practice of home front documentaries such as “Crows and Sparrows”&“The River Flows Eastwards”,with the realism of the post-war new films from“Long Live the Nation”,by retrospecting the historical torrent of Chinese film development in the first half of the last century to explore the unique position and valuable artistic value of the documentary film“Long Live the Nation”.
