This article mainly takes the Nehru's time, by comparing the changes of the status of women before and after the independence, discussing the Nehru's time of political and economic and education and family status of women, thus analysising of various efforts and effect of the Government to improve the status of women. And more importantly, it comments on the achievements and shortcomings of these measures and policies. This article tries to have a visual picture of the India women before and after the independence , making people have a deeper understanding of the Indian culture's far-reaching impact on society.In addition to Introduction and conclusion, the paper includes another four parts, which deal with the living conditions of women in India before and after independence , the Government to formulate laws and policies. To investigate the development of the problem. The first part takes about the oppression and exploitation which the women have suffered from the general population and special groups,and analyses the measures which the British colonial and why it takes. The second part to the fourth part is the focus of the full text, which discusses detaily the policits the Indian Government in the Jawaharlal Nehru's time has made after the Independence, to improve the status of the women in polity, economy, education and home status of women , therefore, brings out the author's opinions on the achievements and shortcomings of all the measures. Finally, by generalizing the above analyses , the author comes up with the objective conclusion, the low status of women in India is an extremely complex social and cultural problem, which has become a serious problem having held back the socio-economic development of India.Measures taken by the government of Jawaharlal Nehru accumulate experience and provide a reference for the subsequent. Government of India to improve the status of women in the process of modernization is also a long way to go.
