The non-interrogative usage of interrogative pronoun"Shui"is one peculiar phenomenon in Modern Chinese grammar. Due to its various categorization and complicated usage, it has always been a hot spot of research in domestic grammar circle. Despite of the fact that great achievements have been accomplished in the native study, the study of teaching Chinese as a second language is still very rare.Nowadays, with the constant heating of the"Chinese-learning Fever"all over the world, overseas students'enthusiasm of learning Chinese is getting higher and higher. Thus, the requirements for Chinese teaching are also much higher than before. When learning interrogative pronouns, oversea students no longer constrain their focus on the interrogative usages, but begin to pay more attention to the non-interrogative usages. However, the non-interrogative usages of interrogative pronoun"Shui"are seriously undervalued in existing textbooks for oversea students. Only few textbooks mention the non-interrogative usage of interrogative pronoun"Shui", and there are certain limitations of the categorization in some textbooks.From the perspective of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, this thesis presents a detailed categorization and description of the non-interrogative usage of interrogative pronoun"Shui". It also constitutes a comparative analysis of the non-interrogative usage of interrogative pronoun"Shui"through the data elicited from the oversea students'corpus and questionnaires. Thus, enlightenments to teaching of Chinese as a foreign language are obtained, including enlightenments to teaching material compilation and teaching methods.
