Research On Relationship Among Self-disclosure In Online Chatting Coping Style And Loneliness Of College Students

Self-disclosure is one of important topics in psychology.Although it is usually discussed under real-life condition,as the prevalence of internet, people began to pay attention to computer-mediated self-disclosure. This paper intended to investigate people′s self-disclosure in online chatting.Base-on overviews of former researches and open-ended questionnaire,this study organized a questionnaire about college students self-disclosure in online chatting.With the organized questionnaires,this paper explored the college students self-disclosure in online chatting,and compared the difference between self-disclosure in real-life and self-disclosure in online chatting.Moreover, the relationship among self-disclosure in online chatting,Coping Style and loneliness of college students were researched. Through analysis and discussion,the main conclusions of this study as follows:(1)The self-made questionnaire had good reliability and fair validity.The topics that college students self-disclosure in online chatting contained five dimensions:tastes and interests,study,intercourse with opposite sex,attitudes and opinions,body.(2)There were significant gender differences in intercourse with opposite sex, boys′self-disclosure was higher than girls. There were no significant gender differences in other self-disclosure topics.There were significant grade differences in college students′self-disclosure in online chatting.The self-disclosure score of seniors was statistically higher than that of juniors. The tastes and interests score of freshmen was statistically higher than that of juniors. The attitudes and opinions score of seniors was statistically higher than that of freshmen. The study score of freshmen was statistically higher than that of juniors,and the study score of seniors was statistically higher than that of juniors. The intercourse with opposite sex score of seniors was statistically higher than that of freshmen and juniors. The body score of seniors was statistically higher than that of others grades. (3) There were significant differences in college students self-disclosure in online chatting with different kinds of target persons,the score that self-disclosure with real-life friends was significantly higher than cyber friends.(4)There were significant gender differences in college students self-disclosure in online chatting with real-life friends,girls′score was higher than boys. There were significant grade differences in college students self-disclosure in online chatting with real-life friends,seniors′score was higher than freshmen. There were significant gender differences in college students self-disclosure in online chatting with cyber friends,boys′score was higher than girls. There were significant grade differences in college students self-disclosure in online chatting with cyber friends,the self-disclosure score of seniors was statistically higher than that of juniors,and the study score of seniors was statistically higher than that of juniors. The attitudes and opinions score of seniors was statistically higher than that of freshmen and juniors, and the intercourse with opposite sex score of seniors was statistically higher than that of freshmen and juniors. The body score of seniors was statistically higher than that of other grades.(5)The level of self-disclosure were no significant difference between in real-life and in online chatting with real-life friends.However, The level of self-disclosure were significant difference between in real-life with real-life friends and in online chatting with cyber friends.The level of self-disclosure in real-life was higher than in online chatting.(6)There was negative correlation between the self-disclosure with real-life friends and loneliness; There was significant positive correlation between the self-disclosure with cyber friends and loneliness.(7)The mediator effects of coping style between self-disclosure with cyber friends and loneliness.
