The Function Approach was introduced to China in 1980th.Since then,the advantage of the teaching theory has been fully used in the teaching Chinese as a second language. The textbook as the present of overall plan and evidence of classroom teaching and test play an important role in teaching process of Chinese to foreigners.A number of textbooks have been compiled according to the principle of Function Approach.Among them,The New Practical Chinese Reader Textbook(《新实用汉语课本》), whose chief editor is Liuxun,was considered to be the most successful one.This textbook is the latest primary integrated textbook strongly recommended by NOTCFL(国家汉办),which is aimed maily to overseas,and is highly spoken of according to the survey。This thesis focuses on the study of the various aspects concerning contents of text, new words,grammar,etc.And try to find the relationship of the Function Approach and the compiling of intensive reading textbook.Based on the research carried out in this thesis,experiences as well as lessons can be drawn to provide reference for latter compliers,so as to promote the development of the cause of Chinese teaching to foreigners.
