Pragmatic translation, which is also called applied translation or practical translation, refers to the translation of non-literature texts, covering political, economic, social and cultural areas and including all texts involved in foreign affairs, social life, production areas, business activities and so on. Nowadays because of the rapid social and economic developments, international exchanges and cooperation have become more and more frequent in China, the demands towards qualified talents who specialize in the translation for different kinds of pragmatic texts have greatly increased. However, comparing with flourishing markets, the study for pragmatic translation teaching has not gained its due attention.Teaching for pragmatic translation should be included in the education for undergraduate English majors because it can meet the requirements put forward in the teaching syllabus and satisfy the needs from the market.In order to find out the present situation of pragmatic translation teaching for undergraduate English majors, a questionnaire is designed. It concentrates on the aspects of translation course books, translation strategies given in the class as well as the practice students have. Through the questionnaire, it is found out the problems in present pragmatic translation mainly are lack of systematic teaching, short of comprehensive pragmatic translation course books and no sufficient translation practice. In order to solve the problems occurred in present pragmatic translation teaching, some suggestions are put forward in the thesis.
