Er Tan Lei Zeng is a collection of short fictions written by Wang Tong-gui in classical Chinese in the end of the Ming Dynasty. The motivation of writing was composed of social education, the expression of depressing emotion and entertainment. The content of this novel can be divided into 22 kinds and obviously the writer liked the strange stories. The short fictions emphasize feudal morality by praising the virtuous persons while attacking the vicious cases. These stories have high value as historical evidences. Compared with other novels, Er Tan Lei Zeng has a higher artistic achievement and the scenarios of the fictions influenced other novels and dramas in Ming and Qing Dynasty. There are some similar and different things in writing between Er Tan Lei Zeng and Liao Zhai Zhi Yi. But the style of them is not the same in aspects of the creation, the visualization, the shadowland, the reality, the facticity, the poetry and the comments, which are decided by the different concept of novel. In a word, Er Tan Lei Zeng is one of excellent fictions written in classical Chinese in the late Ming Dynasty.
