A Study On The Rewriting Of Wang Zengqi’s New Strange Tales Of Liao Zhai

New Strange Tales of Liao Zhai is a group of 13 short stories adapted by Wang Zengqi from Pu Songling’s Strange Tales of Liao Zhai around 1987.The purpose of Wang Zengqi’s rewriting is to inject modern consciousness into the text,and to rewrite it from the perspective of philosophy and aesthetics.Based on the rewriting theory in the theory of intertextuality,this paper studies the intertextuality of the former and the latter.The first chapter is mainly about the intertextual rewriting of New Strange Tales of Liao Zhai and Strange Tales of Liao Zhai.Through close reading of the text,the author makes an in-depth exploration of the intertextual rewriting approach from the four aspects of characters,narrative language,story plot and theme,and studies the intertextual relationship between the two texts.The second part is to explore the reasons for rewriting,mainly from Wang Zengqi’s personal aesthetic interest,consistent ideas of literary creation and social literary trends of thought to study three aspects;The third chapter discusses the significance of the rewriting of New Strange Tales of Liao Zhai,,tries to put New Strange Tales of Liao Zhai on the whole literature system of Wang Zengqi and examine the significance of New Strange Tales of Liao Zhai on the axis of literary history,mainly from three aspects: Wang Zengqi’s exploration of "modern consciousness",the continuation and innovation of classical tradition,and the beneficial exploration of rewriting narrative strategy.The conclusion discusses the positive and negative significance of Wang Zengqi’s rewriting and the beneficial enlightenment to contemporary literary creation.
