| This thesis presents an analytical study of the vocabulary features of Tunxi dialect at the five levels of lexical system, lexical sound, morpheme, meaning and etymology. In order to conduct a data-driven study, the author builds a lexical corpus of Tunxi dialect, which has been classified, made statistics, and analyzed. It is hoped that through the detailed comparative study the lexical characteristics of Tunxi dialect could be described and revealed. The thesis contains seven chapters. The first chapter is an introduction; the second about the lexical system of Tunxi dialect; the third about the lexical sound, the fourth about the morpheme; the fifth about the meaning; the sixth about etymology; and the last a table of the classified vocabulary. The thesis comes to the conclusion which includes two points:1. There are great differences between Tunxi dialect and the Standard Chinese at the lexical level. The vocabulary of Tunxi dialect still keeps more features of the ancient Chinese language than the Standard Chinese for its lexical forms and meanings have changed less.2. The vocabulary of Tunxi dialect is being influenced more and more by other dialects and especially by the Standard Chinese. The influences are reflected at two aspects: more and more synonyms are being used; some words in the dialect are replaced by the words in the Standard Chinese. |
