Any civilization fruit in the world is the carrier of culture. Of course, the work of art is not an exception. The Chinese painting named as the Riverside Scene of Pure Brightness is the typical representation of painting works during Song Dynasty and carries then delivers the characteristic cultural spirit of the times, i.e., the rationalistic spirit, or, the spirit of principle, which is the first key term then and usually referred to the character of the trend of Neo-Confucianism. Due greatly to its features of theoretical penetrations into society and social life, emphasis upon innovation, pragmatistic idea meanwhile arguing against any negative or high-hearted attitude to real life, Neo-Confucianism achieved its popularization and dominant statue and made various impressions on people's thinking so as to have them formed with the rationalism when they are involving in and facing life issues, including the issue of painting art. The magnum opus of the Riverside Scene of Pure Brightness is branded with the essence or spirit of it. The high rationalistic spirit of the Riverside Scene of Pure Brightness is expressed by several ways. Firstly, the theme is realistic. Secondly , all the things in the painting is true and live.Then, the logos sense of the painting technique is presented by all kinds of ways.Namely, the high rationalistic spirit and it is necessary to refer to the context of the original culture in the right times as well as other necessary references of learning of the real intention of the painter himself, in terms of the study of the painting work and the thoughts it possesses.
