A Preliminary Investigation Into The Laiyang (Shihetou) Dialect

Laiyang City is at the inland of Jiaodong Peninsula, its dialect is a transit of Donglai dialects to Dongwei dialects in Jiaoliao mandarin area. We have originally got the dialectal materials through field works, then given a thorough description and study on the dialect's phonology, vocabulary and grammar.We have defined the dialect's phonologic system and also concerned about the sandhi and -er suffix. We have now achieved dialectal features as follows: the changing trend of diphthong's monophthongizing, the voiceless Entering tone of mid-Chinese into Rising tone, and the tone system's simplization.Considerable dialectal vocabulary showed a native social cultural life. Comparative models, aspects of verbs, the preposition dai are our focus on grammar.Our work will possibly benefit the reconstruction of the Jiaoliao dialectal history.
