Antonym is a common and important lexical phenomenon. Though predecessors had made much investigation on it, the work is still need to do more in the breadth and depth. Especially the study of ancient Chinese's antonyms, greater part of which are in Xan Qin and Wei Jin dynasty. The scale and spread of the antonym research on Han dynasty's is imbalance either. So we should make further work over the phenomenon in this period.Shuo Yuan written by Liu Xiang is a collection of former literatures by compling. For this reason, the paper does a disquisition on antonyms in it. Basing on the previous researching results and experiences, it tries to make a deep discussion on antonyms in the book by edition proof-reading, exhaustive statistics, classification, sorting out and so on. The paper places emphasis on the detailed analysis and induction of antonyms.With an incorporated analysis of these words, it evolving the features of antonyms in Shuo Yuan and reveal several developing regulations of. ancient Chinese's. It also hopes to provide some materials to research in these areas.The paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter gives a brief introduction to the corpus value of Shuo Yuan, the research state of ancient Chinese antonyms, standards of definition and judgment, and study methods. The second chapter analyses the antonyms specifically, making an inquiry into three angles: the classification, the syntagmatic words, the diverse corresponding relation of antonyms. The third chapter sumrises the exiscent ways of antonyms . The forth chapter discusses the important role of antonyms in the book on four aspects: forming a word, analysis of meaning, significance of expression, rhetoric. The last chapter makes the thoughtful conclusion, and explores regularity results on Shuo Yuan's antonyms: Firstly, the quantity is great and monosyllabic words occupy the overwhelming majority. Secondly, most of them appear frequently and continue to use by descendants. Thirdly, there's obviously imbalance quality of them. Fourthly, antonyms in shuoyuan are stable and the majority is language antonyms.
