Between Stickness And Breakthrough

Taiwan movies are paid attention by the world since the new film movement popularized in 1980s in Taiwan area.As one of the main leaders in the new film movement, Hou Xiaoxian not only made a tremendous contribution to taiwan movies for locating its own position among the world's.but also stuck to his own aesthetic style till breaking it in the practice and follow the independence and artistic dignity of films after the movement. He produced a lot of fine work one after another for the film industry. This article is pointed at the stickness and breakthrough of his artistic style ,with the study of Hou's work later in his career. With the work in his early and mid career as a reference, the reason why he changed his style later in his career is discussed.
