The Research On Zishu

Zishu,which belongs to the system of Shuowen by Xu Shen of the Eastern Han Dynasty and is complied by an unknown scholar in the Wei and Jin Dynasties period,is a lost dictionary.In Liang of Southern Dynasties,Yupian complied by Gu Yewang quoted Zishu in large quantities in order to explain the words,both the Note of Wenxuan written by Li Shan and Yiqiejingyinyi co-written by Hui Lin and Xuan Ying of Tang Dynasty,Xi Lin of Liao Dynasty also quoted Zishu in large quantities.So did other dictionaries,such as Jingdianshiwen,Guangyun,etc.Therefore,from Northern and Southern Dynasties period to Sui and Tang Dynasties,even till Song and Liao Dynasties period,Zishu was saved successfully and had been often used and attached importance to by many scholars.However,somehow,Zishu was no longer heard, later gradually lost,not circulated until today.The present Zishu materials mainly derive from the documents scholars'in Qing Dynasty have collated.They include Xiaoxuesouyi by Long Zhang,Xiaoxuegouchen by Ren Dachun, Huangshiyishukao by Huang Shi and Xiaoxuegouchenxubian by Gu Zhengfu. Sometimes zishu may be taken as the general term of Shuowen,Zilin,Yupian etc. In this paper,before I study Zishu,I have made the judgement to exclude the pan-said zishu and take the designated Zishu as the object of study,in order to ensure the accuracy of research materials.In the paper,I take Zishu based on Zishu of Xiaoxuesouyi collection collated by Long Zhang as the main targets,and take into account Zishu collection collated by Ren Dachun,Huang Shi,and Gu Zhengfu.In chapter 2 of the paper,through making analysis and study on Zishu of Xiaoxuesouyi collection collated by Long Zhang,I try to describe the style and primary appearance of Zishu.In chapter 3 through a comparative study on Zishu and Shuowen,I am going to reveal Zishu on the aspects of the collection of words,the interpretation of the words and the characteristics.Yiqiejingyinyi written respectively by Hui Lin and Xuan Ying of Tang Dynasty and Xi Lin of Liao Dynasty are the explanation of Buddhist scriptures classics in the literature of the word scholium book,rich in content,not only in words explanation of Buddhist scriptures,but also in folk words explanation in the daily lives of people.Meanwhile,it preserve a large number of books in Tang Dynasty and the ancient books before Tang Dynasty in Chinese history.In the history of Chinese Linguistics,it occupies an important position in the study of ancient books,particularly on the preservation of Zishu.Zishu of Xiaoxuesouyi collated by Long Zhang also quoted much from Zishu of Yiqiejingyinyi.Therefore, in chapter 4,I made the comparation between Zishu of Yiqiejingyinyi and Zishu of Xiaoxuesouyi collated by Long Zhang,in order to make further understanding on the primary appearance of Zishu.In chapter 5,firstly,I discussed the value of Zishu on the aspect of document calibration and ancient Chinese classics arrangement.Secondly,through making researches on the differences of the words interpretation in Zishu quoted by Xuanyingyinyi's different editions,and using different materials of different editions as the evidence,I explained clearly that it can be roughly divided into the two edition systems:possession of Qishazang and possession of Korea.Then, through making the comparison between Zishu and Shuowen,Yupian,we could figure out its status and value in Chinese dictionary history.Meanwhile,through making the observation on the quoted content of Zishu in Dictionary of Chinese Characters and Chinese Dictionary,we could find out the important reference value of Zishu on present dictionary compilation.Finally,through making analysis on certain words,I try to figure out the academic value of Zishu in linguistics and culturology.In a word,in chapter 5,I mainly summarize the important values of Zishu on the collation,linguistics and culture.
