It originates from the Tang novel and gets high artistic achievement with a diversity of literary and artistic forms. Part one is the introduction of this paper. I'll sum up the research motives, the research method and the structure of this thesis. Part two is to introduce its derivation from novel to drama. Part three is the author's research. There are three arguments about Xiu Ru Ji's author: Zheng Ruoyong, Xue Jinyan and Xu Lin. I think Xu Lin is the real author. Part four is to study the theme of Xiu Ru Ji. The characters have changed a lot in the long process of historical development. I reveal the reasons and analyze the theme of Xiu Ru Ji. Part five is the artistic achievement of Xiu Ru Ji. It gets some plots adjusted on basis of the past arts' achievements. As a result the story is more reasonable and the figures are more lively . The language of Xiu Ru Ji also gets high achievement. It's simple and easy to understand, and fits the characters well. Part six is about the adaptation. I'll take the Yue Opera , Li Yuan Xi for example. The last one is the concluding remarks. Xiu Ru Ji needs further research for improvement.
