Xiu Ru Study

Xiuruji is a legend works with rather high artistic achievement, which came into being during the reign of Chenghua and Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty. Part One does textual research on the edition of Xiuruji and finds that the edition can be classified into two major systems on characters and content: one is the system of Baojinzhai edition, the other is the system of Chen Meigong criticism edtion. The general remarks in Bao Jinzhai edition and Li Zhuowu criticism edition are the same, but the remarks in Bao Jinzhai edtion lacks of notes and commentary at the top of a page and general remarks on the top of the book. The general remarks in Bao Jinzhai edition is completely different with Chen Meigong criticism edition. The notes and commentary at the top of a page in Zhu Moben used the notes and commentary in Li Zhuowu critism edition and Chen Meigong critism editionindiscriminately. Judging from these, I deduce that Li Zhuowu critism edition is the earliest edtion. Part Two is "the investment on the author of Xiuruji". I invest and debate the arguments about the author which have already been put forth. These thress arguments includes the argument of an anonymous, the argument of Zheng Ruoyong, the argument of Xue Jinyan and the argument of Xulin.Then I think that Xulin is the real author of Xiuruji. Part Three is "the study on the development of Xiuruji". The dissertation discusses from the following three aspects: the development of plot, the development of images of figure and the development of matrimonial veiw and reveals the social reason and the reason of development of literature itself why the development occurred. Part Four is "the artistic achievement of Xiuruji". Firstly, plot arrangement is quite successful: xiuru is used as the stage property permeating all the opera; foreshadowing and coordination are successfully applied; adjustment of plot are reasonable. Secondly, language of Xiuruji also get high achievement.
