The study expatiates on and integrates both domestic and overseas culture shock concept and theories, discusses the concept and standard of mental health, analyses the structure of mental health, design the mental health questionnaire, measure 848 middle aged by the social culture events questionnaire and mental health questionnaire, employs variance analysis(ANOVA)and t test to analysis the characteristics of culture shock and mental health.The result shows:(1) In general middle aged in our country preserved their culture shock and mental health was in a positive condition; (2) there existed positive correlations between culture shock of material culture,political culture and mental health of middle aged. (3)the culture shock of material culture reported by males was obviously positive than that reported by females, the factor of role adaptation in mental health reported by male was obviously negative than that reported by female, but there is no significant differences in the total mental health level between them; (4)the culture shock of material culture reported by middle aged in town was positive than that reported by the ones in countryside or in urban; the culture shock of political culture reported by middle aged in countryside was positive than that reported by the ones in town or in urban. The total points of mental health, the subjects in town are at the higher level than those in countryside, urban subjects are at the higher level than those living in the countryside; (5)Subjects of head-work type are at the highest level than those of blend-work type and the physical-work type in culture shock and mental health.(6) there existed positive correlations between culture shock of political culture and mental health of the three work-type subjects.
